Where to print?

So, I often find myself in a situation where someone says "Hey, will you print that picture for me?" and its almost always a friend so I say Yes, I'd love to!

Where do you guys print stuff? I pretty much only print 8x10's. But where is cheap and best?

I have been just running to local Wal-greens and have it printed there, but I'm thinking there is probably some online source that does it cheaper and better?

How much does it cost?

Thanks,
Jeremy

I have heard great things about mpix. I do my own, so i can't say by personal experience but so many rave about their customer service and ethics.

some time ago i had a student who was working on a project and had them printed at wal-mart (of all places) and they were terrific. However, the person in charge was then promoted and they were no longer terrific. So these types of printing locations are hit and miss, that is why i would be trying mpix if it was my work.

No I am not associated with them :)

I've used Mpix for prints as large as 20x30 and I've always been happy with them... actually I take that back. There was one enlargement they botched badly, but after a single email they reprinted and resent it to me at no charge.

In that situation, I usually just print one off with the printer sitting right on my desk (Canon Pixma iP5200). Assuming it's not larger than letter size.

I use Mpix for most other prints.

Same thing happened to me once... I had two 20x20 standouts that just looked like crap (the edge was white). I sent them an e-mail with a picture of the prints, and had new ones on my doorstep 2 days later.

I use Mpix as well.

Guess thats the place to go? (mpix)

In high school I use to print off a Cannon Printer, but I don't own one myself. This was in the Photolab.

Mpix is pretty good at a reasonable price.

The only issues I have ever had with them were on larger items, and they were quick to fix it.

I send them all of my film too... As far as that goes, they're pretty good there too.

Have yet to be disappointed by mpix either... Sent many orders through them of varying sizes and treatments.

then again...

We also sent regular snapshots to Costco 4x6 in size and haven't been disappointed either. Of course our expectations are quite different.

Mpix. They're printer profiles are nice for on screen proofing.

I've done matted prints up to 20x30 and also canvas stretch 20x30 and all have come out great. And they're fast.

Mpix does seem to do a great job for a large company. As a small business owner myself, I always feel that it's necessary to make a quick little comment about supporting your local small businesses. If you have a few extra minutes, do a quick google search for a local print shop in your area. You'll probably find a couple of small local shops, owned and operated by a very intelligent and skilled individual. Most likely you'll be offered even better prices than Mpix has (even though their prices are actually reasonable for a large company), save money in shipping, and, best of all, you're going to get great personal service, and maybe make a friend in the end as well.

No offense to Mpix, but I always appreciate our local client base, so I always just like to remind people that small businesses are very viable options, and please don't forget the little guys. They need your support more now than ever.

Just placed my first order with mpix, can't wait to see the result
