I am nearly to buy Nikon D3100 body+lens pack;

Nikon D3100 + 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens

But there is an other choice of
adding the 55-200mm f/4.0-5.6G VR Lens to this package.

Are these lenses really differ. Do I get a great magnification with this 55-200mm lens compared to 18-55mm lens.

If so, I`ll buy both .But if not I`ll stuck to the first choice.

Need your advices, thank you.

both lenses together will give you a good range for normal use. Quality wise they are just fine.

But, what about 250mm or 300mm lenses?

Shall I get enough magnification with this 55-200mm lens?

It seems to me that you need to research the technical terms some more before spending your $$.

"MM" is the focal length of the lens, the longer it is the greater the magnification of the subject.

The numbers after the "1:" are the lens aperture, or how much light it lets in. The smaller the numbers the more light it lets in, multiple numbers like "1:4.5-5.6" mean the smallest aperture changes from 4.5 to 5.6 as you zoom in.

Lenses with smaller and/or constant aperture numbers will allow you to take photos in less light, and are typically more expensive.
