Which of these lens is sharper?

Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L I USM (Version 1)

Or

Tamron SP 24-70mm Di VC USD (Has IS)

I own both of these lenses and have done several tests but I just can't decide which lens is better for me. I plan on selling the one I don't keep. IMO, I think the Canon is slightly sharper but I just can't tell. I mainly shoot weddings and I love that the Tamron has image stabilization.

Any help and advice is appreciate!

Hard to advise you...af gryphonslair99 mentions, sell the one that doesn't work for you, which is a colloquialism for the one you like less, or somesuch thing. I dunno...the Canon's resale value is likely higher. A year or more ago, I looked at a LOT of sample photos from those two lenses for a TPF member whio asked me to evaluate them. Personally, I felt that the Canon had smoother defocused background rendering on some subjects and on some types of backgrounds. If you look at the few floral shots in the above link, you can literally SEE the bokeh character of the Tamron VC lens; on some types of natural backdrops, it looks "nervous" to me. the aboe samples have a LOT of flat-plane, city buildings, which makes for SUCKY evaluation photos for a lens to be used for people photography.

I would not evaluate based on sharpness; you yourself own both and cannot clearly define which is "sharper", so don't worry about that metric. Which lens do you like more? Does one perform better? Does one focus more reliably for you?

Which lens is the better picture-maker? Keep that one!

If you like to do those candle-light and string-light OOF background so-called bokeh shots, the aspherical zoom lens design like the new Tamron Aspherical VC model can create onion-ring type bokeh balls. And also, as mentioned, I think the way the pioctures look,overall, is more cittical than the sharpness metric for people photos, especially.

OK, so I have ultimately decided to sell my Canon 24-70. I'm shooting a wedding tomorrow and immediately thought of using my Tamron. (Mainly because of the image stabilization)

How much would my Canon 24-70 f/2.8 I (Mark 1) go for nowadays?

It's in pretty good condition. No internal fungus, haze and/or dust. Elements are free of scratches and the body is in excellent condition.

According to DxO, the Tamron is sharper hands down, plus it has IS.
