Which one lens for a wedding?

Oh yeah, and to hopefully quench the fears of many, there will be two relatively experienced secondary shooters that I have chosen in attendance, gear in tow. I'm a betting man, but almost always have an ace in the hole. ;)

"I'm not having my wedding shot with a kit lens. "
.

The only kit lens I have is the AF-S 18-105, and I'm not terribly happy with the IQ on it. My other lenses (non kit) are much better.

I should have said I'm not having my wedding shot with MY kit lens.

My apologies.

Besides, the way things are going, it will probably end up being the one that gets used. :er:

Well, I want to send you my congrats!! Getting married is definately an experience! If you have any questions as far as weding prep. feel free to message me! :)

Your kindness is apprecieted. :)

Let me tell you mine was a headache!! lol. Two weeks before the photographer we had booked came down with a severe case of dementia (older man late 60s) and it was Prom time in the small town we are from along with the two towns that are within 10 miles of the town we were having our event. I lucked out and was able to obtain one individual lady whom was not busy at such short notice that has a history of doing EXCEPTIONAL shots! Thank God. So yeah, we got that hiccup taken care of and then the Ringbearer's parents decided to get divorced and his mom wouldn't let him be in the wedding. As if I hadn't had enough... my mother in law got a phone call the Wednesday before and the Pastor of the church was allowing a funeral to happen the morning of the wedding so no decorating the night before there or at the dance hall! It was bad I was in tears!! The day of the wedding I lost my hubby's ring... lol. Yeah, we found it, and the 26th of April are celebrating 4 BEAUTIFUL years!! :) So I completely understand the headaches :)

As you use a D7000 I would suggest a 14-24 2.8 due to the crop factor but that's just me. A 24-70 is a beautiful lens but its really meant for a FX body, not that there is anything wrong with it on a DX body but all of a sudden you're looking at a equivalent 36-105
The 70-200 is nice but overkill if the place is quite small hence why all photographers have it on a second body. How big is the wedding if you dont mind me asking?
50mm 1.8 is great and an awesome pocket lens, but then again you will be lacking the wide aspect of the lens :)

Here is the scenario. Wedding taking place outside, in a park, by a fountain, in a small setting. Reception taking place ina a reception hall that is two rooms, both 20'x40' (yeah, I don't have a lot of friends, and don't need a lot of room.) I DO have a very nice Nikkor 135mm AI f/2.8 lens for portrait type shots where the photog can take their time with composition and MF, but I want to make sure that she has something nice and snappy AF wise for the reception and the ceremony.

Hope that helps :)

^^^ yeah, that. :D And I also have the 50 1.8D which I find to be responsible for some fantastic images. The ceremony and reception are small enough with few enough people that I believe 70 will more than likely be wide enough.

I always have the 135 if not......

I think I will go for the 24-70. Seems to make lots of sense to me now. The photog can always zoom with her feet if necessary.

Thanks all!

Update!

Turns out a couple of things have been brought to light. My setup will be used as a second body/backup. Also, she was the shooter for my Soon to be's previous wedding. As weird as it was to look at pictures of my to be's last wedding (and it was weird) I think things will be just fine. It certainly won't be the same portfolio that people would pay thousands of dollars for, but I don't think I will have to apologize to anyone before handing them a picture album.

She was very happy with the pics from last time, so I am happy with her choice. (especially the price!!!! and the fact that I get a new lens out of the deal. ;) )

This being said, its going to be very difficult to not be a pain in the ass to the photog during the wedding.
