Budget isn't a huge problem, I am trying to figure out what to save up for. I would say less than 2,000. Prefer 1,000-1,500. USD.
Edit: Not going to full frame in near future.
I currently have 70-200mm F/2.8 and I am looking for something less than 70mm to fill the gap. Essentially replace my kit lens 18-55 piece of crap non-IS. I am not interested in super-wide lenses such as 10-22 or anything wider than 18mm. I do plan on using F/2.8 and IS in low-light but I may consider F/4 with IS. I wont be doing sports in low-light so high shutter speeds isn't a priority. Mostly for a walk-around lens that my 70-200 doesn't cover. DO everything and anything in the 0-70mm range lol...
I do have a 7D so it will be on a crop sensor. Some people say 24-70 may be too long on a crop sensor. I wont be doing any super wide wedding shots though. I did view the 24-70 in store on a crop sensor and it did appear to be wide enough but in store isn't the best place to test zoom.
17-40 is nice, weather sealed is a plus BTW, although its not 2.8 but still considered.
EF-S 17-55 is very appealing as it has IS, is 2.8 and good quality optics etc etc for a pretty good price. It isnt weather sealed iirc? Which isnt *THAT* important but would be nice.
The 24-105, again is F/4 but does have IS but the range is pretty long at the short end, and overlaps into my 70-200 range a little much.
I am thinking the 17-55 is my best bet. Are there any good competitors to this in sigma or other company?
Any comments or suggestions?
Thanks
