What's new

Why does buying a tripod have to be so difficult..

You don't need the additional cost for carbon since you'll be shooting in the studio and not hiking. A good heavy duty aluminum tripod would work. One important option is whether you want a ball head or pan and tilt head. I don't know what works better for your application.

The other option is to buy a kit for shooting like this. studio tripod | B&H Photo Video

You could call B and H Photo and talk to their staff. Tell them what you need and cost limits. They're pretty helpful and could at least give some solid options. Good luck. Alan.

I've been (lazily) looking for a new tripod head for 3 years. The trouble is that anything I would want, it A LOT more money than I want to spend.

A tripod kit is really one of the best examples of a time when spending a little more to get something that work well and is of a good quality, is the best option.

I've been fairly lucky in that I've found several solid, used tripods. I still want a fancy carbon fiber tripod, but that will have to wait.

And they do show the difference between a good tripod and cheap ones.

I guess, but it's the most biased asinine non-realistic approach to "reviewing". Most of his videos have a good idea behind them, but are ruined by the lack of actual content.

I made this to express my theory on tripod buying. Some may be familiar with the formula.

its really easy...just go to the store, give them money, and take home a tripod. easy peasy.
Because there are camera stores on like every street corner these days! :lmao:

Seriously, though... the closest camera store is nearly a 2 hour round-trip for me and I'm sure that many other members are in the same boat. OP, like lambertpix said, figure out what you're looking for in a tripod, then focus on a few manufacturers known for making quality products, and start narrowing things down based on the criteria you come up with--there's a tripod model for pretty much every use case, you just have to define your use case. Make your decision based on research, not what people are telling you to buy.

Not me 2 within 5 minutes drive probably 10+ within 1 hour and Leica premier dealer 20 minute drive ;) http://www.harrisoncameras.co.uk/
