What's new

Why is my photo terrible?

He gave you fair c&c, your gonna have to thicken up your skin. You needed some fill light for the girl, and even with that, the comp. just is not the greatest, by that I mean, it says nothing. No point of interest, just some hills and the sky, maybe if there was a sunset, lake or snow, something.

Uhhhhh...he never asked for C&C!

No, but he did ask why it was terrible, first thing he asked, so I answered.

Sometimes reading more than the title helps. :meh:

He is asking about image quality. You know, as far as clarity and sharpnes...

Could you crop a small section at 100% resolution, and post it?

Yes. Here you go:

Sorry, I tried to put
tags around it, but it didn't show up.
Anyway, do you see how it looks grainy and impressionistic? It almost looks as if I shot at ISO 1600, but I didn't, I shot at 200. I didn't use a tripod, but at 1/400 I wouldn't think that would be causing so much lost detail.

I thinkn the gentleman above might be correct in saying the in-camera settings are off. Hopefully he will get back to me with an opinion on that. I understand why the composition is terrible, but I don't understand why the shot looks like a drawing.

Thanks.
:lmao: He don't know me too well do he?

Hopefully one of the Canon-gurus will pipe up. Did you have any filters on the camera?

Yes, I see it now, thanks.

Honestly it looks like noise that occurs from trying to rescue an underexposed image.
I can see vertical lines of noise in the shadows.

I'll see if I have a pronounced example to show.

The Canon 5D doesn't do this in-camera, though, right? I didn't post-process, so where in the chain would it gain that noise?

I have withdrawn my responses with a hearty FU. Good luck with your awful photography dude.

Ass.

Here's an example that was way under exposed, and brought up in post, to demonstrate. Yours could just be noise, or a camera setting that applied some brightening upon compression to jpeg.

I'm gonna just say it's noise in your shadows, without having anything other picture to compare and contrast.

Are you shooting in RAW or JPEG?

Hrmph. Worked when I did it...

I doubt this is the spirit of the beginner forum. You know, to show up with 30 years experience and make fun of someone who started a week ago. I looked at your gallery figuring I'd be blown away by the Gods of composition. Didn't happen. You remind me of the kid on my high school baseball team who had to have a carbon bat, convinced it would allow him to hit grand slams. Yes, the one photograph I showed you sucks, but your entire existence sucks. What are you doing hanging out in beginner forums anyway?

Thanks. I am shooting RAW.
