i have a pro camera, mark 3 5d. i have the kit lens 70mm-105mm 4.0 aperture and i switch the lens to auto focus. i also hold AF-on while viewing viewfinder along with shutter press. but my eyes are not viewing the focus. i have tried to set the diopter control to see but i dont think its that.

I take a pic and most of the time it comes blurry. it is especially blurry when i tried to zoom in and even if i adjust the focus ring nothing comes out of it.

i would think its the low light situation in my room as i only have a lamp and a 120d aputure lighting set. Can anyone explain?

I am not 100% sure what you mean here... you have the 24-105mm f/4 L IOS-USM zoom lens, right?

You wrote: " also hold AF-on while viewing viewfinder along with shutter press. but my eyes are not viewing the focus

Which makes me wonder if you have AF-ON set to act as an AF lock?

i mean 120d aputure light storm cob

@Derrel yes i mean the 24-105mm

and what do mean set as AF lock, how do i know?

You need to work on the skills ... you came to us almost a year ago asking for advice buying your first DSLR, so I assume you need to work on the understanding of the basics and not rely on your "Pro" camera to take care of everything.

It might be time to read your user's manual.

Tough love...Yes, read the fine manual is good advice.

I consider everything you guys said, plus did additional research and I still can't figure it out. In my environment which is at home no natural light, just a lamp light and the aputure 120d storm mark 2 light my mode is manual mode. shutter is set at minimum of 1/125, iso at 200 and aperture at f 4.0.

i'm trying to go for the shallow depth of field. my ring light isn't helping my focus as well and i have the 24-105mm zoom kit lens

Can you post an example image with the exif data intact? Sometimes it's easier to diagnose an issue if we can see the problem.

Could be missed focus, shooting inside the cameras minimum focus distance, could be a little ghosting if there's more than one main lught source. Are they continuous lights or flash?

All you're saying is it isn't focusing.

What AF mode are you using? Are you even in AF mode? Is there enough contrast in the scene for the AF module to work? Single- or multi-point AF? How much light is actually on the scene? What ISO, shutter speed and aperture is the camera set to? Does the camera work fine outside in the sun even with no changes in the camera settings?

yes, so shooting at shutter 60, aperture 40
iso 8000
one shot AF drive

the first pic was taken unzoom and the second was zoom at 70mm and also 1.5 ring focus
