Hi looking for a good wide angle for the d500 not sure which one is good due to the 1.5 crop factor . thanks Tom
Multiply any focal length by 1.5, there's your full-frame equivalent. What's good, of course, depends upon the subject and your desired field of view. For your D500, wide angle starts at about 24mm actual focal length.Hi looking for a good wide angle for the d500 not sure which one is good due to the 1.5 crop factor . thanks Tom

You're more likely to experience vignetting (darkness around edges of pictures) with lower cost wide-angle zoom lenses. Fast prime (single focal length) lenses produce the best image quality, but even second-hand can be expensive. You are the final judge - try the wide angle settings (17mm-24mm) on your lens and see for yourself if the quality is good enough for your purpose.landscape railroad and astrophotography , heard has some darkness around edges of picture for the star stuff but haven't actually seen any pictures .
If you want to take a look at some awesome astrophotography and ask questions, @crimbfighter has a lot of wonderful astro shots, and very knowledgeable on the subject, including the best lenses for what you want.landscape railroad and astrophotography , heard has some darkness around edges of picture for thestar stuff but haven't actually saw any pictures .
Tamron makes good wide angle lenses to.I have a Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 that I use on both my D500 and D7200. It has performed very well for me over the years. I will be taking it with me to Alaska next month.
