I am looking a purchasing Nikon D7000 DX-Format Digital SLR Camera Two-Lens VR Outfit (18-105 AF DX & 70-300mm VR f/4.5-5.6G) shipped to my door for $1,889.98. Is this a good deal?

I've heard new models come out in March...does anyone know if prices will go down? Should I wait and see or jump on this?

Thanks,
VL

I could be wrong.. but I highly doubt anything is coming out that's going to replace the D7000 already. It's still only a couple months old.

it is deffinetly not going to drop anytime soon

I think a model will drop in prices when something new is around the corner / in development.
As the D7000 is brand spankin' new, it won't drop for a while, at least a year IMO

Here is the way it works with all technology, in time yes the price will drop and at the same time the new models will come out.
The question becomes are you willing to wait to save a few bucks, because in most cases they do not go down too much and will you want the new one that comes out more.

The funny thing is, once you have it you will be too busy shooting to care what the price does and what the new model does.
Just go for it and have fun.

At the camera store in Canada this set up sells for 1950 plus tax plus shipping. So you do the math!

Look at other suppliers in your area or online sellers you trust and make up your own mind. If it's a price you can live with then for you it's a good deal.

You could wait and dither and price shop until the cows come home. Eventually you'll have to make the purchase if you want the stuff. While you are doing all this tire kicking you are not taking pictures.

My grandfather told me that before a purchase I should shop once, shop carefully and then stop shopping. (Find what you want, get a price that agrees with you then stop looking or asking if you've made the right choice. Use and enjoy your purchase and move on.)

D7000 is brand new, only a couple of months old so the price will not drop any time soon. There are some new cameras being released soon, however those will be replacing 2+ year old cameras.

Ok thanks guys! Does this sound like a good deal?

It's a nice started package which covers most usable range from wide to telephoto, the only thing i dont like is the 18-105 as the mount is plastic; I sold mine in the 1st two weeks and replaced it with the 18-200.
In time lenses can be upgraded so faster and more specific, better glass etc...

Prices usually soften a bit near the major holidays starting with Black Friday.

If cost is a concern, perhaps you should consider refurbished gear.

If getting a good deal is a concern, you have to look around online and see what other places are selling exactly the same kit for.

Just be careful with this. If you find a deal that seems too good to be true, there's about a 99.9% chance it is. There are companies that will try to sell you a kit for a ridiculously low amount of money. After you order, they'll call you telling you that you need to add things, like a battery and charger (which should be part of the kit), filters, etc, and they'll sell these items at a hugely high price. Think $150 for a batter and $75 for a charger, and $200 for filters. If you decline their upsell, they'll hang up on you and cancel the order. The best advice is buy from a reputable dealer. B&H, Adorama, and even Amazon (not Amazon Marketplace, these are third party sellers, not Amazon). Chances are, most places won't be able to beat their prices anyway.
