Wireless trigger question

Are there any benefits using a wireless trigger over the built in wireless function in a nikon?

YES. Using RadioPoppers and a Nikon, you can use high speed shutter synchronizing in bright lighting conditions with speedlights, and trigger the flashes over very long distances; using Pocket Wizard triggers, you can do the same thing with Canon's competing technology. Check out well-known sports and editorial shooter Dave Black's many articles, where he shows and describes how to use triggering systems and Nikon cameras with Nikon speedlights.
