Just picked up a 35-70mm 2.8D with a Macro function! So it's like 2 lens in one! Here is the first Macro pic i took with it.

Yeah, what is that, a filling that fell out?

Btw, the image is under-exposed, because the camera is metering the shot. That means it looks at the white and tries to interpret it as 18% grey. It's like photographing snow, you'll need to dial in at least +1 exposure compensation to get to an actual white. You need to stop up one stop.
