Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
Ok I'm doing it, I'm taking some steps forward with my photography and one of the first steps is a website. I only just decided to do this and contacted a friend in the website business for guidance. He is going to set me all up on his servers etc and told me to go with Wordpress and to make sure it is reactive. He already has my domain name set up and is ready to go whenever I am. Left to my own devices and taking my time would likely translate into me dragging my heels so I'm just doing my best to go with the (fast) flow.

After going through a ton of similar portfolio templates I came across this one and I'm close to pulling the trigger on it but wanted to run it past you guys to make sure there isn't anything that is specific to photography that I'm missing before I do. I will tweak it of course and I intend to change up the BG colours to black or dark grey to give a better background to show the pictures against.

Thanks for taking a look and looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Stock Photography | Run your own stock photography website like a boss.

Just out of curiosity PR, why are you looking at a template that is specifically designed for stock sales?

Hi John, I wasn't specifically looking for a stock site template I just searched photography and it came up, I like the layout and the fact that the payment end was already set up was a bonus.

Thanks MiFleur I'll take a look now :)

Okay, I guess a better question is, what do you want to market with your site? Service? Images?

Ah good question, the site will be for art prints, no other services at this point.

Whoa MiFleur you may have just changed my mind... stay tuned while I do some more reading!

That sounded totally wishy washy, spoke too fast lol I meant to say that looks like it might be a good option also lol

As someone who has set up and managed many WordPress sites, I will say one thing about these PARTICULAR templates:

MAKE SURE THESE TEMPLATES COME WITH DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS AND SUPPORT.

All of these templates do things that Wordpress does not support natively... things like multiple galleries for example. That means that you are almost completely at the mercy of the template authors for instructions and support. If the instructions are sparse, and/or the support unresponsive, then you will be perpetually frustrated with it.

And people who know "WordPress" in general will have only a limited ability to help you.

So true. I have experienced the good, the bad and the ugly with documentation. Just last night I was super frustrated trying to get one plugin to play nice with another, the option was built in but it made no mention of the shortcode you had to use to make it work. Lots of googling later and it works now, but man it would not have been hard to say "to call the other gallery here is the shortcode you need to use"

Glad you found GPP, they have some cool stuff. They have a plugin that will allow any wordpress theme to act as a stock photography site, so don't feel shoe boxed into their themes to get that functionality. Should note I have not used said plugin.

Ok I totally hate it when I get ahead of myself and post threads like this before I've really thought through things, I always end up sounding like a goober.

So I slowed my truck down and took some time to talk to my web guy and really look around. Finally yesterday I chose my template and he is installing it for me today! woot (I think... ****s gettin' kinda real lol)

This is the template I chose:

Core - One Page Photography Theme | Just another Core - Multipurpose One Page Theme Sites site

Now I have to write stuff like the About Me.... ugh.

Oh damn, and a logo/watermark.
