^^ That was my first thought, as well, but wondered (as usual) if my monitor is not capturing detail. As it is, there seems too much black space in the center of the image.

I really like the contrasting colors. The teal in the shirt and the bowl paired with the burgundy doors. I wish the man didn't look soft.

It's just a little soft, but here I think that actually enhances the feel of it. I see enough detail in the interior to make it work and I wouldn't change a thing.

This was really an attempt at a painterly look and, in truth, to use an image that had too much color noise because of the low light conditions. Everything about the original suggested this kind of treatment, the strong structure, the blocks of color, the repetition of the blues and the posture of the man. In the original, everything around the doors, including the foreground was much, much, much lighter and I darkened it all to make the center attract the eye.

Thanks to Tired Iron for suggesting more detail in the center; I think it makes the picture much better. Through a fluke, I uploaded the second version with more detail and it replaced the original also so Tired Iron's comment was on a picture that is no longer there. But believe me, he was right on track and correct in his assessment.
