Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
Just want to see what you guys think if you enjoy any of my photos or if I could add more to my website.

I've been kind of slacking off in my photography the past year not doing as much as I should have and picking up projects or shooting as much lately. I plan to change that and get back into it more than ever.

The photos I put on my site are a few of the ones I think are good. I just want an opinion on where I am as far as my skill goes.

the website is jflo photography | SmugMug

site lacks focus and organization

as above said
put the photos in some sort of an order it will seem less messy,
your photos are good i like them good work

I left thinking "Ok some neat photos... but what are they for?"

None were bad, one in particular looked a little snap-shotty but not a deal breaker. I would just say figure out what you want to do, and only show those photos. If you want to be a commercial photographer, only show commercial photos. Pet photographer? Only pets. If you truly want to "do it all" - which even in this economy I still think you need to at least pick a section of photography - try to separate each into a category and keep them apart from each other in your portfolio section. You do not want commercial photos near family portraits.

The website:

Landing page image bothers me a bit. The box it is in... just there is so much tension because the boundary of the image is amazing close to that border. Try to add a little head room to that.
Only thing I really dislike is that the blog and website are different in style and appearance. Drop your blog background into pure black, not navy blue.

You need some sort of branding as well. Currently you look like one of many out there! Try to pick a color, or a stylistic accent and make it yours.

I know this is just starting out, but keep these things in mind :) They help differentiate from other sites as well as improve the user experience.

Thanks yeah I think I need to organize my photos into categories. I really want to do commercial work but I hardly have any photos to showcase for it so I will have to just build on it till I have enough. And organize sets of photos into groups from portraits, nature, etc... Thanks, the kind of feedback I was looking for. It's all still a work in progress so hopefully I can improve on the stuff you all mentioned.

A great way to "fake it" is commercial work can be covered by a wide variety of photos. If you know how to lay out advertisements (or have a graphic designer friend looking to increase their portfolio) create fake advertisements with your existing photos. This gives you "commercial" work, even if it wasn't really for hire.

That is how you start :)

if would be nice if your portfolio told a story about your photos.. and perhaps categorize them and just pick a few good ones instead of having a bunch of random pictures all cluttered together.

I was impressed with your work. You have some very nice shots there. Organize things somewhat and your well on your way.
