a little confused the price on some websites for the body of a 40d is about 420-450 but on others its 1,200 and up?

Are you confusing D40 (Nikon, less expensive) with 40D (Canon, more expensive)? They are in a different class, and are priced accordingly.

Or, you could be looking at bait and switch dealers like Best Price Cameras. Stay away! It's generally $1200, anything that sways further than a couple $100 is definitely fake. Try reputable dealers like Adorama and B&H Photo, click the links at the top of this page to support the forum.

Unfortunately the low priced places are cons. I got all excited when I first found them, but then I read 100s of reviews of people who got ripped off. While I love to support smaller shops, Amazon always has the best price - which...then again, a lot of their sellers are mom and pops. I don't buy anything from a company I haven't looked into first....especially online. You can always ask people here about specific companies. I'm sure SOMEONE knows Good luck.

Not to confuse you any further, but you could actually get the Rebel and spend more on a really good lens.

depends on the feeling, cause there all are topnotch. then you have to get the telephotolens, cause u need it to get the surfers.
