What's new

WTF? I Got Nothing.

Makes zero sense to me, but I suspect it's not marketed towards me.

Now that Apple has put the dual-lens camera with auto-blurring into the market, the race for DSLR-like quality is on. It will be slow, but we'll start to see great features trickle in (long exposure, more focal length options, adjustable aperture). Every year manufacturers have to improve their cell cameras incrementally. A service like this one is already dying to evolving competition.

im sure they are targeting a small, niche market.
its very possible they can make some quick money if they market it right.
its an interesting gimmick, and there very well might be a target audience willing to fork out some money for these...
they just have to find the right people and get their money fast.
it sort of reminds me of the lytro camera, in the sense that it feels like they are trying very hard to do broad marketing on a product that will likely have a very small user interest base.

I think whats less appealing than the camera itself, is the fact that you pay per picture.
obviously there are trying to jump on the "pay to play" bandwagon.
I understand such a strategy for gaming and software, but not so much for cameras.
maybe im just not understanding how it all works. you pay do download them? for prints?

I like the quotes.

"I still haven’t figured out the settings on my DSLR." RTFM.

"The camera I bought convinced me that I’m not a photographer." Photography's a craft; you're not working at it enough.

"I sold my camera, because my photos looked lame without hours of adjusting." See above.

"I have a massive photo dump that I never look through" Don't spray and pray, and learn to edit.
I really like how they emphasized how it only has one button. I couldn't help but think, naw, still too complicated... lol

I went back to their site today. It's an odd mix of good marketing and ad copy, along with some poorly written stuff. Overall the impression is that this endeavor is being undertaken by a " bunch of amateurs "-- as the creators themselves say in those very words.

Plenty is left to the reader to imagine, and it seems they desperately need walk-in business at the Palo Alto storefront. Details, terms, prices, delivery of images-- not much seems clear to me. I think I get it. But maybe not fully.

My guess is they desperately want to get some big-name early adopters on board. If one if the Kardashisn girls or the Jenner girls, or Katy Perry or Taylor Swift were to get on board, the amount of publicity and exposure could be phenomenal. MANY venture capital and tech investment types are looking for the next big thing. People on Instagram are building social media businesses, based on photos.

California has just under 40 million residents. This seems like an interesting service to offer.

It's actually a great idea and of course the target audience isn't the members of this forum.
I like it better than Snap's Spectacles, and you don't have to hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon to get it. Lol

What if you use it to take a bunch of nude selfies?
I am sure it will happen fairly frequently just as it does with every other camera.
