XTi kit lens 18-55mm quesitions!

This may be stupid to ask, but even searching around I couldnt find the answer.
I have an Xti with just the kit lens right now. I can only use from 35-55mm on the lense, not all the way down to 18mm....so idk If theres something Im not doing but ive never heard of somthin like this bein an issue.

Why can't you use 18-34mm? Is it that the lens zoom ring won't turn?

I dont know why, it just wont turn past 34. I havent dropped/bumped it or anything, so Idk what i could be

strange enough i just got it workin. it was stuck almost, idk what from. but i just gently twisted a little harder and it finally smoothly wisted all the way to 18. weird.
