Yashika FR stuck in film rewind mode

First of all, sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum. Nothing seemed to fit right.

I have a Yashika FR film SLR that I've had for about a year, never had problems with it before. I just bought a new battery and loaded a new roll of film, and the shutter wouldn't work. The film advance lever wouldn't go more than 10-20 degrees--not enough to advance film. I tried pushing the rewind button and rewinding the film, and the button remains depressed. I've unloaded and reloaded the film with no results. I can look through the viewfinder fine, and the self timer won't take pictures either. Best I can tell is that it is stuck in rewind mode, but I could be wrong. Anyone have any ideas?
