Yo!

(really?)

If you are serious about setting up some decent lighting why not save up a bit and get a real light? A 400 or 600 WS strobe, a decent stand and a good umbrella of 40" inches or more would be an excellent first step. Then as funds allow you can build up your setup with decent quality stuff with enough power to be useful and would last a couple of decades.

Cheap is not always the best way to save money. Buy once but buy well.

Did you really just criticize me using the word "yo" ?

Anyway, the way I see it, some light is better than no light, and with funds uncertain I'd rather spend a little less in case something comes up. As a college student, I can't be too frivolous. But once I have a bit more of a steady income I will definitely look into a more expensive setup. Trust me, I know it makes a difference.

Speedlights are nice cause they are portable no AC power needed.

So I might increase my budget a little bit, how does this look?

And you think the lighting stuff will be good to start off with? Anything you'd add?

Will work fine.... I'm assuming your are getting 2 flashes. Get some rechargeable batteries and look into a backdrop solution whether a sheet or muslin or paper etc

Yeah, 2 flashes. What batteries would you recommend? And I already have a backdrop, but I plan to do a lot of location shoots anyway.

Cool, I think I might go with this, but before I click "buy," anyone else have thoughts?
