Is the 70-200 2.8 all I need?

I'm not really afraid of the snakes or to get close to them. I own many reptiles at home. I have been studying venomous snakes for a few years have handled a few. I do need a 50mm or a lot lens though to even things out.

I thought I replied to this, but my KB went nuts.

I'm not afraid of them either. A better word would be terrified or phobic.

I just got back from Costa Rica in December ... We were in Tamarindo.

I can say that the 70-200 is great there. I would also ditch the 85 and take a 50 or a 35 - or even both. But 85 is pretty pointless IMHO

The Canon 500D 77mm diameter close-up lens (aka close-up filter) is a high-quality, two-element achromatic close-up attachment that will thread onto the front of your 70-200/2.8 zoom, and allow you to focus much closer than otherwise. It weighs a few ounces, and can be easily carried in a back pocket. This is NOT at all like the cheap, single element close-up filters that sell for $10...this is a high-quality "lens", mounted in a filter ring. I own one...it's a really nice accessory for nature work with a 70-200 or 300mm f/4 lens, both which have the 77mm filter diameter in current Nikon model lenses.
