I'd start messing around honestly. use histogram as preview so you can see if you're over exposing

I just mess around a lot. Master the owners manual and understand exposure.

There's a book Udnerstanding Exposure that's probably good.

well I'm pretty sure since its a canon flash it will work with the camera's metering.

Plug and pray is fine but you should still know how to use it so if you're in a pinch you know what to do...

Eww i gotta pump it up ewww i gotta lower,etc. You can adjust its power.

that's a great flash to have. The popup sucks.

I have cheesy sunpak I use...night and day difference between it and the popup.

i was struggling with the pop up, plus i use this flash for family stuff, and other things also i am planning to build my own lights, consisting of white bulbs. what do u think? then i ned a portable power

constant light is hot and can be uncomfortable.

Get a couple Sunpak383s with remote triggers...You'll love it. There's a thread Village Idiot started called beginner lighting...
