Actually, the Yahoo News article is a day late and a dollar short, so to speak. Actually, its over a week late.

The last, best viewing was a little over a week ago when there was a New Moon (no moon at night). As the moon approaches full, its a waxing gibbous now, viewing of Mars will get worse. Any moisture and pollution in the air becomes more visible with a bright moon in the sky.
