Good pics. Here's how I think they could be improved.

1. Focus seems to be on the nose, not the eyes. Try manual focusing on the eyes next time. Otherwise this is a really good shot. The subject just bursts out of the portrait. Her skin and hair look great. If you want to get nitpicky, I would have buttoned up her shirt. I think it looks a little sloppy and doesn't add any meaning to the shot.

2. Hair is overexposed and your subject seems to be squinting. Did you shoot this with the sun in front of her? Focus on the eyes.

3. This is really good. Now go experiment with some more angles!

How do I do this manually? Can you explain? My camera has a face-detection setting.

What king of camera are you using? If it is a DSLR with an auto-focusing motor built in to the camera then there should be a switch on the body somewhere to change to manual focus. If the auto-focus is built into the lens then that same switch will be on the lens. This will allow you to manipulate the focus ring, generally located near the end of the lens.

Edit: Just saw your in your profile that you listed a Nikon CoolPix L100 as your camera. I have no idea if you will be able to manual focus it. Best option to figure it out would be the manual. If you cant manual focus there should be a focus lock button so you can focus on the eyes and then lock it so it wont try to re-focus when you take the picture.

Just looked at the manual and am SOOO happy to learn to use the manual focus, I plan on testing it out. Thanks so much for that tip! Can't tell you how much I appreciate it!
