nice shots, too bad theyre both using the same technical cliche. its okay to use it in most cases, however contrasting object has to reinforce the picture adding more significance to it, or to create contrast. I can't see it in this case. In both shots it just looks that the picture would be better off without it.
I love the trees in the first one. What is that in the foreground? I'm not sure it adds anything - the trees are so nice alone, you might crop the bottom 1/5 of the image off to avoid distracting from them. I think the grey to white fade in the sky really adds to the shot, too.
I can't help thinking someone is buried in snow in the 2nd and waving for help. Regardless, it doesn't do as much for me...not in comparison to the 1st which I really like.
I'm not sure what technical cliche that is but I like both photos...
...except for what looks to be Abe Lincolns' top hat and the mitten. Rather distracting and I think the photos would have don't better without them.

It's the vast emptiness of the second photo that makes me find the gloves a little distracting. If there were perhaps signs of other life, of something else, footprints leading somewhere through the snow, then the glove would be a better touch. To me now it's just a random glove in the middle of nowhere. I like the photos of landscapes with infinite DoF, as it makes me scour the photo to try and find something.
I see the trees in #1 as the subject. What I said looked like a top hat, clearly isn't. But I still don't have any idea what is is.![]()
Love #1, but without the foreground object. Sometimes I think simple IS better, and if you could either crop or Photoshop out the object, I think this photo would be awesome! And usually I don't like crooked horizon lines, but something about this one just works! Nice----
