50mm 1.8D vs 50mm 1.4D

I already own the 1.8, and am curious if the 1.4 is a better lens?

Taking necessity out of the equation, how do these 2 stack up?

Dxo rates the 1.4 3 points higher overall, but says the 1.8 is sharper and resolves better.

It is, but not enough to spend the extra money unless you really need that 2/3 stop.

Have you compared the MTF charts and specifications for the 2 lenses at Nikon USA .com?

Both have 7 aperture blades.
