Wait till you get the D7100 and then get the 50mm 1.4D like I did, I just love my lens, that extra wider aperture might not seem like a big deal but when you do night shot and get that little extra light you will be happy you got it and of course its so sharp that it makes me want to use it all day long.
One more nice plus is that it focuses faster then the 1.8G.

Sold my 1.4d to buy the 1.8g--the extra sharpness and contrast at wide apertures is preferable to the half stop of extra speed.

Is it just me though, or does the 50mm 1.8G misfocus occasionally more-so than the 85mm 1.8G? Not a huge amount of misfocusing, but maybe once out of every 10 pictures versus once out of every 20.

I don't see how I could lose. Any long-term plan is a good plan.

Glad you like your 1.8G better then the 1.4D, on my camera the 1.4D was sharper then my old 1.8G.
I was glad I got rid of it, the 1.4D was sharper, faster and AF faster as well.
And smaller, and I like its design better but that's a matter of personal taste.
