8 x 8 album resizing issues

I am having a hard time fitting my photos into my album layouts. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for album design? I end up having to give up some of the image to fit it on the page most of the time, especially with vertical images. This is the first time I am doing an album and I am every excited to get it done, but it has taken me what feels like forever!

DSLR cameras shoot in a 2:3 aspect ratio. Many point & shoot type cameras shoot in another ratio, maybe 4:3. So if if you are going to print them to square shaped paper/album....you will have to crop.

It's the same issue if you're making 5x7 prints or 8x10 prints. The aspect ratio won't match your original image ratio, so you'll have to crop. If you're smart, you shoot your photos with a little extra room, giving you space to crop them later.

As for album design, what software are you using? Some software makes it fairly simple, especially if you use pre-made templates.

This is the what I do (or at least try to do), but it doesn't always work. Sometimes a square composition just doesn't work for the subject.

Using CS5 with a WHCC template for their album pages. Yes, I do need to be more aware of the crop factor when I am shooting... I guess I am just going to have to do the best I can.

i use blurb to make books. It has options that you can use to resize your photos.

I have also used shutterfly before too. The layouts arent as good on shutterfly but the photos typically come out looking better and more true to how they should look. Its cheaper too.

Part of the learning process! It's great to compose tight in the camera if you know exactly how you're going to use it. If not, you might want to shoot a little wider so you have some cropping options!
