When I used to shoot newborns, I would convert all of the images (via batch) to B/W for the parents. Sometimes it surprised me which I preferred in the end, not all have the same appeal in color.

Well, this is trial and error for me since I'm pretty new. Since the baby was sleeping I decided to use a flash. I was prepared with a couple of LED lights and a 50mm f1.4 if I had to. I shot these with my Canon 24-70 f/2.8L, an AlienBees 400 through a 30"x60" softbox. Yeah, overkill but it's what I have. But wow - beautiful, even, soft light!

1. f/5 1/250 ISO100 24mm
2. f/2.8 1/250 ISO100 39mm

I pretty much just draped a white, textured blanket over a table and up onto my backdrop pole. Placed the softbox horizontally about a couple of feet higher than the table angled about 45 degrees, then shot from right below the softbox.

I'm doing another newborn shoot on Tuesday. I hope to get some similar shots but I'm going to try and do some dark background stuff. Trying to vary the looks as I build my portfolio.
