Any comments or suggestions about either of these would be appreciated. I'm having this girl back in a couple of weeks and I would like to be able to take it up a notch. I'm doing a lot of trial and error, taking notes, analyzing the photos here and on other sites. I'm just trying to take it all in!

#1 her face looks oddly without contrast and too cold. Her face is also, in theis picture, quite asymmetric; that may be due to her orientation to the camera. My guess is that she would look better with a much more dramatic lighting.

#2 is too heavy in the blacks for my taste and the bricks really draw attention.
Her face is at the very top of the image and so it looks more like an ad for the jacket than a picture of a woman.

In building upon Lew's comments, and recognizing that I am not an expert in makeup, I agree with Lew about the lighting. Lighting in #1 is nearly flat, and that coupled with her very heavy underliner and your close horizontal crop yields a rather uninteresting shot. Either get a professional MA, or ask her to ease up on the underliner. Also IMO she needs more definition in her eyebrows and lips.

#2 captures her outfit quite nicely, but I think we want to see more of her face, not so much her stylish outfit. Also in #2, the way the wall returns is a distraction. Move her away from the corner so it is not in the photo.
