I went back to the reserve close to my place. The meadowlark I saw before was still there so I tried for some more in flight shots. let me know what you think!

Ive never photographed a bird in my life, but i cant imagine how anyone could do a better job than these shots.. Really nice work !

Aww Meadowlark, I must look that one up. Beautiful in flight shot Nate and showing some beautiful markings on the feathering, very nice and looks great against that blue sky. Your Warblers are just darn cute, love the colours on those and nicely picked out from the branches and twigs, not easy to do sometimes.

All the best Nate.

Danny.

Beautiful shots. The Western Meadowlark is Oregon's state bird; not sure if yours there in Minnesota is the same exact species. It's a pretty bird, but here it suffers from a lot of habitat loss, and is not seen all that often in many places...too many parking lots and housing developments here wher we used to have grasslands and such...

Thanks Darrel! The Western and Eastern meadowlark are nearly impossible to distinguish visually. They do have quite different calls though. In Minnesota we have both types of meadowlark and they can hybridize as well! The only way I knew this one was a eastern is by calling it to me with an app on my phone haha. I tried the western's call first and he didn't show up. Seconds after playing the eastern's call I saw him flying my way.
