A few shots of the Eiffel Tower

Here are a few shots I took of the Eiffel Tower during our trip to Paris. C&C is welcome.

props for getting some nice perspective on a done to death subject. i like number 3 a lot, just wish the top wasn't cut off.

These are shots that would benefit immensely from HDR, I'm thinking. #1, everything but the tower looks under exposed. #2, tower is under exposed. I'll bet #3 would be a mighty picture with HDR - its got that mysterious feel to it that many HDR photos exhibit. Aside from that, if you shot in RAW try boosting the exposure a little, and maybe work with curves to get some detail back from the shadows. Also with #3, you might be able to crop the bottom bits out with the cars and still have a great pic. I'd love to see these again edited!

Thanks for the comments and critiques! I tend to shoot my pictures underexposed to begin with. I like the look it gave on number two but I'll play with it again and see what it looks like more exposed. Number 1 I don't think I'll ever be happy with. I took the picture at night through a plastic window and the ISO was so high that it made it really noisy. In addition I wanted to keep the dark night time look of it but still be able to see a faint outline of the buildings. Also when I increased the exposure level in Elements on that one it really increased the noise. Anyone have any tips?

EDIT: Crap! I forgot to clone out the crane at the bottom right! Well I'll get around to that but let me know of anything else, lol.

I like your new edit. I wouldn't have paid attention to the crane until you mentioned it. Just crop it in on that side so you don't have to clone it out and it would still be a great photo in my opinion. But what's that worth? 0.00

the first shot, while dark, was cool. i had no clue there were search lights on top. love it.

PG- I had thought about cropping it like that but I think I would be cutting off too much. Compositionally I think the wide panaroma around the Eiffel Tower is what makes it stand out so much and makes it such a strong focal point in the image. However I also cloned it out and if I ever want it printed larger than 8"x10" it's noticeable.

naptime- Yeah, I had no idea either until we were there, we kept seeing the spotlights at night from other parts of town and wondering what it was. It wasn't until I took that picture from the Pompidou Art Center that I found out. Interesting fact, the Eiffel Tower itself is not copyrighted, allowing you to sell pictures that contain it. However, the light display at night is, so you can only sell daytime pictures of it without copyright infringement.

To get all the tower you could have taken shots of the top and the sides and stitched them the same as you would a panorama. I fooled with it in photoshop. Great photos by the way...

That is great! I'm afraid my PS skills aren't quite up to par yet but I'm slowly learning it. I just got PS CS5 too so I guess I really should get to practicing!
