i went out to a state park the other night to shoot the aurora behind some old ww2 towers. normally the state park is closed at night, but i figured i'd try it anyway. the gate was open, there were cars there, and after i showed up a few people even said there was a cop at the front gate waving them in. i walked out to the towers, set up, took a few frames until i found the aurora (not visible to the eye), fixed my exposure and fine tuned the focus...and then the cop showed up on the beach and said we all had to go. so here's the one and only shot that i managed to get. not my preferred comp., but it is what it is. cropped to xpan ratio in post.

Killer...Only takes one shot!

It's awesome. Sorry you all got booted out, but you didn't walk away with nothing. This is beautiful and nicely composed.

thanks! it's not the worst composition ever, but it would have been nice to frame the towers on the left or maybe get a little closer.

Wow, a beautiful shot ... :encouragement:
thank you jeff.

thanks terri, it's definitely better than nothing. after getting booted off of the beach, i was trying to figure out somewhere else to shoot that wasn't part of the state park and kept coming up empty. by the time i got somewhere the aurora was gone.

"One shot, one kill" as the Navy Seals say. Awesome!

Nominated for POTM!

Excellent! Usually, having the subject (the towers) in the center of the frame breaks the "rules" of composition. But rules are meant to be broken. And the composition works well here.
