This creative effect used to be made from Kodalith high contrast black and white film by making a contact image of a color slide onto Kodalith film in the chemical darkroom and then sandwiching the two slightly off register.
This print was made from a digital image, using digital image editing techniques to replicate the darkroom technique.
The image has pure white and pure black, but no shades of grey, at the pixel level. However, close proximity of pure black and pure white pixel values render as grey from normal viewing distance.
