A Little Help With the Crossword

When I looked up from The NY Times Crossword, I found I had company, staring right into my eyes. Luckily I had my iPhone with me.

But he was so tiny and calm. I had to move the paper to get him into the light and he just went along for the ride. But even when he changed his (her ?) position, he kept making eye contact.

Is that a baby cicada but I don't see any wings. It probably thinks your its mother....
