Thanks. Yes square does look nice, but these are for the purpose of a portfolio which is why they are 11x14 crops.

The white trees in the background compete with the subject too much. The square crop (and some burning) removes that.
If you're going to keep it 11x14, consider some burning of the bright background highlights.

I can see why you cropped as you did. I'm not keen on the cropped tire but all the other crops bring in other problems. You made the best compromise as you saw it to make this shot a keeper. It probably won't win the Pullitzer prize but I like it best the way you cropped it.

Can you share any of the later shots from this shoot? ........... [EDITED] Scrub that request! I see you did!

Cropping an image can sometimes be quite tricky. I'm not overly fond of cropping into the front wheel, which looks 'accidental' to me. SHowing the whole wheel and tire really solidified it for me. As far as crops, I liked the square one sleist did, with the black border. 11x14 is a blocky print size, and wastes a LOT of the sides of an image captures with a 24x36 aspect ratio capture area, so it can make for some tough cropping choices when printing or cropping 3:2 camera shots to the 11x14 aspect. I'm not sure a full bleed to 11x14 would be the best choice, unless absolutely needed.

I can't say I see eye to eye with that crop amolitor, not in the least bit.

No worries, of course. My goal is (well, ok, it SHOULD BE) always to generate ideas not to "show you the right way". Even if you hate my crop, maybe it gave you an idea you can use another time!
