What's new

A New One I took Today (C&C)

its out of focus....the original is out of focus.....which gives me a headache and makes me dizzy.

You cant just break all the "rules" of composition, then over edit a photo and call it a "style"

rules are meant to be broken.....but not ALL of them!!!!!

I wanted to add, that I have been using Photoshop from when it came on floppies. Years of experience doesnt justify pushing all the sliders to the right.

I'm fairly new to PS, but this just cracks me up. Cheers.

I will work on the fingers cut off. I guess I see the shot and want to take it but Im too quick to do it. Im still learning the fstops and apertures and so I spend more time flipping them around to see what I get than what the person in the photo is doing. I'll work on that.

Im sorry that you feel thats what I did. I did not. Im sorry you feel the need to belittle me because you dont like the photo.

When you post a picture with heavy PPing, and add a disclaimer along the lines of "I know the PPing isn't to everyones taste", you kinda handcuff everyone as far as c&c goes because a disclaimer implies you don't want to hear about it. So whats left? In a pic like this, quite honestly, the only thing that stands out about it is the PPing. And I agree with the consensus; it's over cooked. You can say you like it, and that's fine. Just be mindful that an overwhelming majority of people here and on every other photo forum don't like it. You're not the only one processing like that and posting the pics to mostly negative reviews. It's just not a look most people like. What Bitter's trying to tell you is it doesn't matter if you've been using Photoshop since 1.0, over processed is over processed and most people won't like it.

Softening on children is not necessary and tends to give a blurry look, if using layers remove it from her and she'll pop more, if you want a consistant color keep it but remove the blurring.
The thread belows kinda gives you the jist on how people feel on the forum, not going to change so you roll with the punches so to speak.

PS:take a close look at the processing on the various images.

Thanks Vtf for the positive feedback. I appreciate your input that isnt ridiculing me. I will learn to take better photographs so I dont have to add so much to them. I dont see how anyone learns with the belittling that goes on here and now apparently Im labeled. Nice. Thanks for the warm welcome. It sure makes me want to continue posting.

I like the photo editing. Im not a professional. Thats why Im posting on the beginners section, but I have been doing photoshop for about 9 years now. I like how it looks. The out of focus is what I was going for. If you look at what I do, most of it kinda has this edge to it. Maybe its not popular and I love the opinions and advice and welcome it, but in the end, I still like it. :)

I've been playing guitar for 15 years, i still suck at it. Because I have never taken the time to actually LEARN the guitar. all i've learned is basic cords and that don't get you far.

If someone were to say 'you will never amount to anything photographically'... THAT would be an example of belittling. Stating that your image has been over processed, and/or is out of focus, is an example of constructive criticism which, if accepted in the proper manner, is meant to help you improve.

If you enjoy the unfocused look, I suggest using manual focus and intentionally botching it. It will give you a much better (out of focus) look than photoshop.

But if you want to actually make good photographs, I suggest not unfocusing your subject and using more of a minimalist processing approach.

If you're looking to only make your photography appeal to yourself, then go right ahead and ignore our criticism, and cease posting photos for C&C. If you want to improve your craft, there are some valid points in this thread which you appear to be disregarding. It does us no good to tell you what could be improved with the photograph, and then for you to say "Oh well, it's supposed to be that way. What else could I change?"

Sorry ..... my comment wasn't directed at you specifically. I was laughing at myself as much as anyone else. It's a common occurrence. Bitters take on it made me laugh, that's all.

I disagree with most of the above.

Great shot. You nailed all of the best elements. The face - eyes, nose, mouth, ears are focused and the butterflies on the shirt. Nothing else matters much.
