Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I know this isn't the right place for introductions but I thought I'd try to make myself know on the forum by posting some of my work for the users who frequent this forum to critique.

I have browsed this forum for a number of weeks but have only recently decided to sign up. This is my second photography forum after migrating from a less active and less friendly forum.

Both photos are from a recent visit to Blackpool in Lancashire.

1# A reflection of the famous Blackpool Tower. This was heavily edited to make a much more prominent reflection. My personal criticism is that I should have included the top of the tower.

2# Simple HDR style image. I was on the wrong side of the tower here, the sun created a lot of glare so I had to adjust the exposure with the adjustment brush, I basically dodged the tower.

I rarely post these kinds of thread so I'd really appreciate hearing about what you do and don't like about my work.

Thanks a lot. I see them both serving their own purpose; when taking the first shot I was deliberately trying to find a unique take on what has already been done thousands of times over the past hundred years. The second is my own rendition of what I was trying to avoid with the first one!

Thanks again for the comment!

The Beginners forum is the initial dumping ground. No worries mate.

Which section did you miss? The B&W gallery or HDR discussions, Just for Fun or the obligatory holiday photos in the Beginners forum?

Flipping the image so that the text reads proper might be a first step on #1 and including the full spire on #1 might have helped. John was succinct on #2.

Would you suggest that I post these separately in each section of the forum? I thought I'd post them here because I've got a low post count, that usually points to beginner status, so I thought it would be the safest option! I have seen the other sections so I'll be sure to be more specific with my choice of subforum.

I'm not disagreeing with what you've said, but wouldn't it seem strange for reflected writing to be corrected? The whole point being that it is a reflection and reversed writing being what is expected of a mirrored image?

Thanks for your ideas, I'll be sure to keep them in mind. I can never be too careful with my composition!

Sorry, my sense of humor often doesn't translate. You're fine and dandy.

Please feel free to disagree. That is the whole point of a dialogue. That being said, why should we, as viewers, expect to see the expected? Wouldn't the juxtaposition to see things from a different perspective be refreshing? Even, ever so slightly, that it makes us think something is odd. I can see a reflection each and evey day, but if I were to see a reflection that didn't look like a reflection, but knowing in my mind that it was a reflection, it could cause me to pause and contemplate the artist's intent, thereby, envoking an emotion for me to reconsider the doldrums of everyday existance.

BTW, your part of the world (Cumbria) is beautiful. Only once have I visited there, but god, it was beautiful.

You make a very good point there, it's not one that I would ever have thought of. I'm not one to change the image as much as that, usually, but I can see what you mean, I would certainly wonder why mirrored writing had been corrected.

Yep, lived here most of my life! I actually don't get to take advantage of the Lakes anywhere near as much as I'd like despite being only 25 minutes from Windermere. But you're right; it's an amazing place if you know where to look.
