A Newbie :)

I've always loved taking landscape / nature photography. However, a few months back I got the urge to try studio work. So I wen't on craigslist and purchased some lamps--got home, set them up, and was like "ummm yeah, now what?!" lol OK. So it did not happen exactly like that; however, I'm kinda lost when it comes to studio/model photography. Can somebody point me in the right direction? The equipment I have is a Nikon d90, Alienbees b400 and b800 lamps, and a reflector. Do I need a light meter--those seem expensive--and I'm not sure how pro I'm going with studio work. Anybody got any suggestions? Good websites, tutorials?
