So this is me in a river that runs through our town what do you like and what can I do to make it better??

I'm hesitant to term anything where the subject is hand-holding the camera MySpace/Facebook style as a 'portrait'. It's a nice photograph of you, but if you get the camera on a tripod, or even a rock or other stable surface at something closer to eye-level which would include a bit of background would help greatly.

I actually took this with my camera on my tripod and i held one of the tripod legs and angled it down and set a self timer on my camera. But I can see how it might have the facebook look to it thanks for the advice!!

Not a bad pic, but I do see that facebook effect. Funny. I noticed it too, but then went "well, wait, it doesn't look like she's holding the camera... and yet her arm is clearly in 'that direction'". Clever idea with the tripod, though.

I think you clipping off your head a bit is a bit distracting for me. The water makes a neat background.

your camera was too close. usually there is at least a 3ft focusing distance for most lens to get a good sharpness. I dont think your arms are quite long enough. I would also suggest getting you a nice tripod to assist you and a wireless trigger. both are essential gear imo.

Why you cuted the picture??? (it is well said "cuted"?, sorry but my english is not peeeerfect), I mean, I don't say it is bad or something but I am not fan of cut pictures to make them better, you can do it perfect in the same shot. Another thing, yes, the angle it is like toooooooo facebook... I'm sure you can find another angle where you will look cute, and maybe better!!!

the location of your arm and the angle do make it look like the proverbial facebook photo. think if you did it again in a portrait orientation instead of landscape and get a bit more of you and the background you could have a nice picture.
