I felt like tempting the Missus's diet today and made homemade Garlic Cheddar biscuits and coleslaw. Yum! I am grateful my dear old Mom is a great cook and I always enjoyed hanging out in her kitchen when I was a boy :)

Good thing I'm having chicken fried steak and country gravy for lunch, because you just made me hungry. ;)

Trade you!;) Good chicken fry and gravy was a staple in Oklahoma. It's one of those things you could have for any meal. Add eggs for breakfast, Veggies ( usually fried okra in Oklahoma ) and mashed potatoes for lunch or dinner!

Add a couple of pieces of fried chicken and a beverage ( water, soda, milk, beer, wine) and i might hop a cross-country flight for a plate of that food. I LOVE coleslaw, and I like cheese biscuits quite a bit!

I used to jokingly ask women if they could fry chicken and would tell them if they could, I would marry them. That's how much I like fried chicken, lol. You didn't need to delete your post for my sake. As long as a member isn't belligerent, I have no problem with honest critique.

Nice one.........
Thanks Jeff.
I loved biscuits when I was in the states. We don't have them in Australia so much. The closer things are scones I guess? 6am where I am so making me hungry!

Yes, scones are close to our biscuits, except my other half ( who is English ) says scones here in the US are different to English because the flour has a different texture. I suppose yours are also different from ours?

Our scones are more like the English variety. Designed to be eaten with jam and cream. Your other half will understand.

Scones or biscuits I would eat either. Though I am on a seafood diet. I see food and I eat it lol.

My mother has been making biscuits for about 80 years! She had to stand in a chair when she was a little girl to reach the counter of my grandparents' farmhouse kitchen. No one makes biscuits like my Mom! She measures nothing, lol.

Making good southern style biscuits is an art form. One that my DW never learned despite the fact that both her Mom an Dad could. In desperation I finally had my mother in law walk me through the process over and over till I got it. Like your Mom she didn't measure anything either.

Cooking is becoming a lost art form. Today's fast-paced lifestyle has brought us the microwave, convection ovens and every time saving gadget you could ever imagine. A person who puts their love into a meal is a true cook.

You are correct that cooking is becoming a lost art. I am amused at the easy packaging stuff at the grocery store. One item was topping for fruit. The packaged topping was oatmeal, cinnamon, and brown sugar. All you had to add was butter and bake. I don't cook the big meals too much anymore for 2 people and rarely fry anything anymore. Can the younger set make gravy from scratch that isn't lumpy? Although my MIL could not make gravy without first pouring it thru a tea strainer to get the lumps out.

Couldn't agree more. Sadly, many of these old recipes/techniques aren't being passed down. Well, maybe they are, but the younger generation isn't listening or using them. Really glad I asked my mother and grandmother for some of them.
