About Filters

    Hello everyone

    I have purchased a canon 20D recently..
    i want to know, does the filter protect the lense from sunlight? and i want to know more about filters and about their uses?

    What filter are you asking about? I just received and 20D and it did not come included with any filters.

    There are UV or sunlight filters that serve mostly to protect the front of the lens. The idea being that anything that might impact or scratch the lens, will damage the filter rather than the lens.

    There are many, many different types of filters for many different uses. Although, with a digital image, it's very easy to replicate the effects of most of the filters with image software.

    A good filter to have would be a polarizer. It cuts down or eliminates polarized light, like reflections, which can be hard to replicate in the digital darkroom. It can also make colors look more saturated in certain situations.
