True that. You can also keep light off the backdrop to make it go very dark if the backdrop is far enough back. Rig up a shield out of some cardboard to fasten onto the side of your softbox to keep the background in the dark.

A wrinkled muslin's best friend. I usually just pull it taught between the uprights of my background stand however. If you've got a nice room, with maybe a Christmas tree, or even just a nice, plain wall, use that instead.
