As mentioned in my other thread, we stayed at the private game reserve Thornybush next to the Kruger in South Africa. We saw these elephant literally as we arrived at our camp, they were at the water hole maybe 80 meters from our pool.

They had a very young calf (the guide said it was around 3 days old). When a cranky bull arrived the females formed a protective circle around it. We could not ask for a better welcome.

As always C&C more than welcome.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Just stunning shots. See elephants is #1 on my bucket list and has been since I was about 3. Thanks for sharing these wonderful shots.
Thank you. Yes they are wonderful animals. I still have some to edit. We saw elephants (different groups) on 3 of the 4 days.

gooner, very nice images. No. 3 is my favourite. I see by #2 that you get the same treatment that I have received on occasion - south side of a north-bound elephant :biggrin-93: .

Where is Thornybush from Sabi Sands? I was at SS last year and it was great.

Thorny would be north and a little west of SS iirc. It borders on the east to Kruger, and to the north with Timbavati (of white lion fame). The fences to Timbavati have been dropped, and they are in the process of removing the fences to to Kruger.

Thanks. I was supposed to go to Mala Mala this fall, but I had to cancel because I have developed serious back problems which preclude travel. It's still on the Bucket list.

Brilliant photos. I love the detail of the animal(s) in contrast to the background.
