We took a quick little jaunt out to the wheat fields after work, the setting sun was so beautiful! Let me know what you think, thanks!

I think #1 could use a little fill light on her face. #2 is nice, but I think I would have put her on the left side of the frame instead of the right. That whole left half just isn't really doing anything... Maybe try a crop into portrait orientation?

Edit
Second thought - square crop on #2. Take off the left side to make it square (maybe a little off the right too).

I like that crop, the thing that I think that it lacks is showing the "vastness" if that is a word, of the field. I tried adding a little fill light (not necessarily to these two photos) , and I might be doing it wrong, but it seems to me that it makes your subject lose dimension? I do agree that I should have had her on the other side of the frame. Thanks so much for your comments! I may have to venture out more into the square crops, I haven't really done that yet. I knew that with the setting sun I would be getting some bad light on her face, but I hadn't grabbed anything but my camera. I may just have to go back a little more prepared!

I like the first image. Some cropping from the right and some fill flash around the face as another poster suggested would make a good difference.

Is this better?

Really beautiful. I just wish that either the sky has more details, or you framed it such that it's all wheat and no sky.

She's a natural model!
Actually I was wondering if I should crop out the little bit of sky also. I don't know that these particular shots would be able to do that, but I had noticed that in some of my others. Thanks, I am a lucky photographer that is a mother that USUALLY has a willing model.

the setting looks so beautiful that it looks "fake", but in a good way

Thanks! Kansas can be beautiful, and the wheat is starting to turn golden and in the setting sun I just couldn't pass it up! My poor husband was driving us around looking for the perfect field. I couldn't have one that you had to venture too far from the road because I am PETRIFIED of snakes, and tall grass usually equals snakes!

I'm impressed. I like. Good job. Don't care if the sky is blown out. She just looks nice. The fill lighting helped. Love those wheat fields.

Thank you vtf! Yes the fill light helped very much!

I just have a question too, how does everyone else feel about the cropping? Do you feel the square crop is better?

I actually prefer the uncropped versions, because it gives the feeling of vastness and it complements the story of the photo.

I would have had your daughter be on the left side of the frame in number #2, and thats just about what i would have done differently

i am so glad I live in central alberta canada where it reaches -50 C. Very few snakes would survive here.
