This has been a real concern for me. I have one bowl of bran flakes for breakfast but I feel as if it is not enough. Should I supplement with Metimucial or similar product?

Are we going to discuss the best way to tell whether or not you're get getting enough "Bran"? That could get messy!

I have been concerned about the frequency and texture of my BMs.

I can't imagine why! You do seem a little constipated at times.... ;)

(btw.. loved the comment on a previous thread! Too bad it was closed before I got there!)

Try some of this.

Ask your physician. I'm not really qualified to tell how much bran you need. I do know, however, that "proper" bread is not normal in the states. You need to go to special stores. If you take a holiday in Norway, you'll find high-bran breads all over the place, it's what most eat.

For Norwegian males, recommended intake of bran is 26-30 g/day, I think (according to the department of public health).

I would it differ due to heritage? I've only traced my family tree back 10 generations.

I think you're probably doing fine on your bran intake, because generally speaking, you do seem to be "full of it." :biglaugh:

I take that as a compliment!

Well it is like money, you can never have enough!

You're probably one of those people who asks the supermarket cashier whether the amount of toilet paper in his cart is sufficient for the amount of food in the cart.

When the ratio of TP/food exceeds 1, it is a clear sign that you have a mostly-female household (as a female cashier remarked to me one day when I was waiting in line...)

For a proper diet 40-50 grams of bran is enough for a breakfast, you should not worry about it just check the quantity you are having.

A celery head a day, will keep the proctologist away... ;)

Eat more beans, lentils, chickpeas and so on.

And stay out of confined spaces.

All day, I was reading the title as 'Am I getting enough brain in my diet?'.
