Alright, so I think my plan is to get the 70-200mm non-VR version. Get a monopod and shoulder brace. Should still work out to be way cheaper than the VR version. Is this a good plan? If not, why not?

You won't need a shoulder brace if you have a monopod.

you didnt do anything wrong. just looks like the lighting was pretty crap.

Too dark. I shoot MMA events also. You need a fast lens because most indoor events are poorly lit.
