My problem is someone must have wanted my camera more than me so now I need to replace it. I am not new, even took a few classes and had my own darkroom. Now that was back when I had put my camera on these leg things a put a cloth over my head and everything Wes upside-down. Ok may not that long ago but you get the idea. I shoot for fun mostly nature, sports and parties. I had a Sony DSC H7 and it was ok for me. I still accessories, 1.7x tele conversion lens, so maybe I should look far a H7 or H9, I believe the conversion lens is compatable. Or just move on. I don't think I'm serious enough to spring for a DSLR so I'm thinking I will stick with a super zoom. I did use the manual features on the Sony alot though so I would really appreciate some guidance from those that are really involved in photography. If you want to build something with wood, ask me. That's why I'm asking you all. My research has made me smart enough to know I would not be able to narrow the field to a winner soon enough to learn the camera well enough to use it for Christmas and new years gatherings. Any advise and comments would be received with gratitude.

So what do you shoot and shat is your budget?

A $500 DSLR is still going to be vastly superior to a $400 (non SLR) digital camera. The main reason being that the sensor (digital film) is a lot larger and also the ability to change the lens.

The 'super zoom' cameras are convenient, but that comes at the expense of image quality (especially compared to a DSLR with a good lens).

Most of us here are more concerned about image quality (what would you expect from people on a photography forum? ) so we would recommend going for quality with a DSLR, but a super zoom (bridge camera) might still be the best choice for YOU.
