Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to say hello and ask for a bit of help. Aperature ISO shutter Speed etc all Rocket science for me. I looked at a few of the tutorials etc mentioned here and it helped clear a lot.

few months back I went to a few stores to try out a camera. and i loked at a Canon 60d and the nikon D7000, The nikon felt a bit better in my hand and so i decided to go with it. I also got myself a 50mm f1.8 and a second hand 85mm F1.8, I have the camera for nearly 5months now. and have nver really used it, Until recently a friend shouted at me and told me that reading online etc is fine but get my ass out and shoot. thats the best way to learn.

So every saturday i now venture out and am taking pictures.

Ok now for my question.

I am intrigued a lot about all the Aperatures ISO and shutter speeds and i make an effort to click same pictures using diffrent aperatures , shutter speeds etc. so it helps me understand what diffrence it makes.

But i thought should i do all of that first or should i just focus on Compostion of the images. and get my Camera holding technique in order before i dwelve into above three main areas. When i say Compostion i mean the way the picture is shot the angle and the way the light falls on objects.. So can you folks tell me what i am doing right or wrong and if i need to do anything diffrent. Btw my biggest discovery was White balance that thing is mental and changes pctures so dramatically. So for me no more auto white balance. Ill post a few pictures from home tonight so you guys can comment. and point out my mistakes.

Hello there buddy! Welcome to the forum!

It seems you've done a nice online reading, but you could probably benefit a lot by reading a good couple of books. One focusing in exposure and one in composition, mainly... I would suggest Bryan Peterson's 'Understanding Exposure' and 'Learning to See Creatively', but there a lot of great books out there. These were just the first I read and they're great!

I think it makes more sense to focus on both aspects... Don't really see the point of putting one 'on hold' while only focusing on the other.

Looking forward to see some of your work!

Get white balance and exposure down first...then move to composition. How your pics are composed won't matter if the exposure isn't correct
