These were from an international friendly match between Ottawa Fury and Rangers FC from Scotland.

Great shots!

Preseason friendlies are great for seeing foreign teams play, we've got Westham and Newcastle utd playing down in New Zealand at the moment.
Were they playing on fake grass? Spotting little ball bearing type balls flying around.
And what about that hump behind the keeper!!

Again great shots, love the expressions.

Scott,

great stuff.
I like to think that you took hundreds and hundreds of exposures and your keeper rate is only 1 or 2%
please tell me that.

Ok, lets go with that. I shot around 200 pictures and will keep 90%, however, only about 10% are any good.

The surface they play on is Field Turf, according to the international players it's one of the best fields in North America. The black pellets are made from recycled tires that are cryogenic frozen and then shattered into the pellets. It's softer than natural grass, and reduces knee injuries. I believe it cost around 4 million dollars to install. The small white markers are off the playing surface, just markers that weren't removed from before the game.

Tottenham was in Toronto last night! We didn't get to the game though. Great pictures!

very nice as usual scott!
those last to are crazy good. love that dirt being kicked up!

Yeah, I really get the FEEL of "friendly" from these. :lmao: Okay, maybe not so much, but I've been there. Just because it's a "friendly" and doesn't mean much, any REAL player still takes it very seriously.

Stellar shots, but then you hardly need MY confirmation on that.
My favorites, by far, are the last two. I've already mentioned my fondness for Keeper shots, and that next to last one with the "dirt" being kicked up, that just rocks!

You are making me want desperately to go find a soccer game being played somewhere near me.
Granted, my BEST shots would likely be something similar to that 10% you toss out.

Good collection of shots. The last two are my favorites. I LIKE the way Field Turf throws up the tire pellets...whent here's a LOT of tire pellets in the air, you know there's "action" goin on! My kid's school layed in a new soccer pitch in F.T. two years ago, and it is soooooo wonderful! Sooooo much softer than the old Astro Turf from my hs days.

Tire pellets, the newest trick to showing motion in sports photography. Now there is a way to present to the school boards as justification to install $750,000+ fields.

Joking, because I do like the look too.

Yeah, the tire pellets really ARE indictors of motion in athetics!!! In NCAA of NFL or CFL-level North American football, on really hard "cuts" that running backs and receivers make, there is often a very definite "puff" that shows immediately past motion. Same thing on diving catches and fierce tackles--we can literally SEE the impact that JUST happened when elbows and stuff hit the turf. It really truly is kind of a new thing in sports photos...the pellets stay in the air maybe two- or three-tenths of a second I'd guess, so it's almost like, well..like the wake in waterskiing. Like that four-foot long skidmark and rooster-tail wake in Scott's second to last shot--that kicks a&& as far as showing that these fellows are sliding along, scrapin' the turf!
